Matthew Joseph Felder

A Michigan man who said he was driving to see his mother in Miami was arrested early Wednesday morning by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.

Matthew Joseph Felder, 56, of Monroe, Mich., had been driving a 2017 Kia Rio at 2:42 a.m. without its taillights illuminated on East State Road 44, according to an arrest report.

Felder attempted to use a false name, so the deputy used a Rapid ID program to identify Felder using his fingerprints. His license has been suspended in Michigan.

He was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended and providing false information to a law enforcement officer.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.
