A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a residence on 36th Place in reference to a domestic dispute, according to an arrest report. The victim told the deputy that 48-year-old John L. Weidow was highly intoxicated and that they got into a verbal argument, the report stated. The victim then went next door to her neighbor’s house and sat with her neighbor for approximately 45 minutes to let Weidow cool down. When the victim returned home, Weidow began arguing with her again and asked her where she had been. The victim stated she attempted to walk down the hallway toward the bedroom, but Weidow grabbed her by the neck and pushed her up against the wall. Weidow then threw her to the ground and kicked her in the side of her abdomen twice. The victim stated she ran next door to her neighbor’s house for safety and called law enforcement.

The deputy made contact with the victim’s neighbor, who backed up the victim’s version of events.

The deputy then made contact with Weidow, who appeared to be highly under the influence of alcohol. Weidow stated that the victim kicked him in the shin first, and then he pushed her. When the deputy attempted to question him further to elaborate on his statement, Weidow stated he did not want to speak anymore and told the deputy to take him to jail, according to the report.

The deputy observed red marks around the victim’s neck and a small scratch on the victim’s right arm. He also observed a large swollen bulge on the victim’s left elbow. Weidow had a small red mark near his ankle, where he stated the victim had kicked him.

Weidow was placed under arrest and was transported to Marion County Jail.
