Tavares Community Theatre hits a home run with ‘Murder at the Howard Johnson’s’

Don Simson

The fledgling Tavares Community Theatre has three competent actors working in harmony to produce a comedy murder mystery that is hilarious. Wife Arlene Miller (Michelle Buehler) is planning to murder her estranged husband Paul Miller (Eddie Kucas) with the help of her dentist lover Mitchell Lovell (Roy Hamlin).

The plot runs amok while trying to decide which man should eventually be killed until the men get together and attempt to turn the tables on Arlene. The actors have a complete command of their roles by allowing the dialogue to flow and allow the punch lines to be absorbed by the audience to elicit their laughter. The play is in three acts at different times of the year which allows changes as to who is the victim each time.

Tavares Community Theatre presents “Murder at the Howard Johnson’s.”

The entire play is in a room at a Howard Johnson’s Hotel. The decor  changes with the season in each act. Even the bed spread is changed each time by a stage crew representing hotel maids. Prop details are not overlooked including the chocolate on the pillow, which the one maid keeps stealing and eating.

I highly recommend a trip to Tavares to see this play running in Feb. 9,10,11 16,17,18 at their current venue (Bridges Covenant Church in the Family Center.) 1100 N St Clair Abrams Ave. Tavares. Purchase tickets: www.tavarestheater.orgor call 352-343-9944
