A snowbird who sipped whiskey at the square was arrested after his golf cart was spotted Tuesday night on County Road 466.
Samuel A. Deluca, 73, of Webster, N.Y. was at the wheel of a silver EZ-GO golf cart at 8:22 p.m. on County Road 466 at Glen Hollow Way, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
It appeared he had been drinking.
Deluca said he had left Lake Sumter Landing where he had consumed three house-brand whiskey drinks on ice. He said he takes medication for blood pressure and heart problems. He also said drinking worsens his vertigo.
He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .189 and .186 blood alcohol content.
He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
