A school resource officer and assistant principal broke up a fight between two female students Monday at Lake Weir High School.

The school resource officer noticed that a large group of students had gathered at about 9:15 a.m. near the administration building and were watching the altercation.

The girls had been pulling hair and hitting each other when the school resource officer and assistant principal pulled them apart, according to an incident report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The students’ disagreement had reportedly begun over the weekend at the Trinity Catholic Carnival.

One of the student’s mother’s was reportedly upset that her daughter was in trouble, contending that her daughter was merely defending herself.
