Community Development District 7 supervisors on Thursday rejected a resident’s request for the removal of a speed bump at the tunnel near Havana Country Club.

Villager Bob Wiggins made the request.

“My golf cart and my body can’t take too much more of the bump,” Wiggins said.

CDD 7 Chairman Ron McMahon was the one who originally requested the speed bump’s installation. He had been involved in a golf cart collision when another golf cart came out of the tunnel without stopping. McMahon escaped injury, but his golf cart sustained several hundred dollars worth of damage.

A speed bump is located in the tunnel that runs from Havana Country Club to the multi-modal path near the Kilimanjaro Golf Course.

Supervisor Jerry Vicenti pointed out that CDD 7 had actually gone to the Project Wide Advisory Committee for the installation of the speed bump. PWAC declined, so CDD 7 took it upon itself to install the speed bump.

Supervisors are standing by that decision.

“I would rather have the complaints than a statistic,” Vicenti said.
