Hofstra is a private, non-profit university and is Long Island’s largest private college, originating in 1935 as an extension of New York University. It became independent Hofstra College in 1939 and gained university status in 1963.

The university has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,899 students on a 244-acre campus that’s located in a suburban setting. It comprises 10 schools, including the Northwell School of Medicine and Deane School of Law and is noted for hosting a series of prominent presidential conferences and debates.
