A Dunnellon man was arrested early Sunday after a confrontation with a woman turned violent and her cell phone ended up on the roof of her house.
Darin Scott Davis, 50, was taken into custody shortly after deputies arrived at a home in the 18700 block of SW 108th Street after receiving a domestic disturbance call. A woman at the home told deputies that Davis damaged the driver’s side window of her car, battered her and took her cell phone from her while she was trying to call 911 for help, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states.
The woman also told deputies that Davis “ripped open a door to the house and came inside.” She said she told him to leave several times and said, “I don’t want you here.”
But Davis shoved her with his hands “at least four times” onto the ground, the woman said, adding that she landed on her back and he kept pushing her down while cursing at her.
The woman said she tried to call 911 on her cell phone, but Davis wrestled it out of her hands, threw it onto her roof and left on a mini dirt bike.
The deputy said he saw redness and some torn skin on the woman’s right elbow, as well as what appeared to be carpet imprints on her right elbow. He also observed redness on her left forearm and a large dent on the driver’s side door of her car, which the woman estimated at about $1,000 worth of damage.
The woman also told deputies that the attack “came out of nowhere,” adding that there hadn’t been a verbal altercation or anything similar beforehand.
While the deputy was talking with the woman, Davis texted her and called her several derogatory names while using the f-word word six times, the report says.
A short time later, deputies met Davis at a nearby McDonald’s restaurant, located at 11232 North Williams Street. He denied touching the woman and said he went to her house to get his dog back. But the woman told him to leave, so he did, the report says.
Davis also denied throwing the woman’s cell phone on the roof. And when asked why he left instead of waiting until deputies arrived, he said he didn’t know the woman was calling for help.
Davis was arrested, transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with battery, obstructing justice and criminal mischief. He was held on $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom July 3 at 9 a.m.
