Walter Lewis

A Wildwood man who became violent and had to be tasered by Sumter County deputies was arrested Wednesday night after a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her.

Walter Lewis, 49, was taken into custody after a woman told deputies he also “threatened to kill her and held her against her will,” a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office report states.

The incident was first reported Wednesday night at about 10:40 p.m. when a woman called the sheriff’s office to report that her daughter had contacted her upset, crying and in fear for her life. The woman said she didn’t know the exact location of her daughter.

But while on the phone with a 911 operator, the woman said her daughter called back and said she was on her way home.

After deputies interviewed the daughter, they went to Lewis’ home at 8566 NE 9th Terrace in Wildwood. But after he became combative and refused to comply with commands, deputies were forced to use a taser to subdue him, the report states.

Lewis was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center early Thursday morning and charged with kidnaping/false imprisonment, sexual assault and resisting arrest. He was being held on $16,000 bond.
