A Community Development District 8 supervisor has offered an estimate of what residents of his district could expect to pay for a revetment project to shore up the island at the Morse Boulevard bridge.
Supervisor Larry McMurry suggested that CDD 8’s piece of the estimated $1.7 million project would be about $268,000. He said that each of the 5,193 rooftops in CDD 8 could expect to pay $51 for the project.
McMurry has remained skeptical about the appearance of the project.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee in 2016 decided to go with a $1.47 million rock revetment project after reviewing a study of the erosion. You can read the complete report considered by PWAC at this link: Slope Stability Analysis Coupled with the $159,000 for the Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. report, it was estimated at that time the project could top out at $1.7 million.
The status of erosion needs to be evaluated, but that could be several months away as pumps continue to work to bring down the water level at Lake Sumter. An inspection cannot take place until the water level comes down.
District Manager Richard Baier said it is too early to jump to any conclusions.
“We are at about Step 2 in a process that is at least 10 steps,” he said. “There is no commitment to spend money.”
However, PWAC has set aside $2.1 million in the event the rock revetment project moves forward.
On Friday, a fellow CDD 8 supervisor also expressed concerns about growing costs for PWAC.
