
A former mayor from Ohio is among a field of five applicants for a Community Development District 3 supervisor’s seat.
The CDD 3 board has indicated it would like to make an appointment at its Aug. 10 meeting to fill the vacancy created by the sudden death of Supervisor Marie McAvoy.
Among the applicants is Terry Biddle, who served as mayor in the village of Chippewa Lake and the village of Briarwood Beach, both in Ohio.
The Village of Belle Aire resident earned an undergraduate degree in criminal justice at Kent State University. He earned a master’s degree in criminal justice at the University of Akron. He worked as a law enforcement coordinator before moving 14 years ago with his wife to The Villages.
The other applicants are:
• Max Bohnstedt, of the Village of Polo Ridge, who before moving to The Villages worked in government finance. He has served as president of the Village Woodworking Club, auditor of the Polo Ridge Social Club and president of the Polo/Glen Bowling League.
• Atilano Bondoc, of the Villages of Glenbrook, volunteered with AARP Tax Aide in The Villages and at The Villages Regional Hospital, but had to give up volunteering two years ago to be the round-the-clock caregiver for his wife,who later lost her battle with breast cancer. He said he came to America from the Philippines with $100 in his pocket, put three children through college and “has a good life.” He said he is interested in serving The Villages.
• Donna Kempa, a resident of the Village of Glenbrook, in 2014 won election to the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors. She resigned from the seat in November 2015 when she moved out of CDD 6. She had a career as a CPA and auditor in Buffalo, N.Y. before moving to Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.
• Shirley Manthorne, of the Village of Polo Ridge, has served since 2013 as CDD 3’s representative on the Architectural Review Committee. She also has served as secretary of the Polo Ridge Social Club.
The application deadline was Tuesday.
