Colonel Robert A. Farr Sr., 85, of Leesburg, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 23, 2018. He was born September 29, 1932 in Randolph, Vermont, the son of Volney and Gladys Farr.
He married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Drew in 1954.
Robert “Bob” began his military service upon entering the ROTC program at University of Vermont where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and completed his Masters of Business Administration at Syracuse University in New York.
He lived and served his entire 30 year career in the U.S. Army in various posts around the world including 2 tours in Vietnam. Prior to his retirement he served as Military Attaché to the ambassadors in Nepal and India.
After retirement Bob and Marilyn moved to Leesburg, FL to the community of Highland Lakes where he actively participated in baseball, bowling, the Roadrunners RV group, singing in the choir and volunteered on numerous committees and events. They were members of Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg, FL.
He was well known for his yearly Christmas yard displays which were enjoyed by the entire Highland Lakes community.
He and Marilyn looked forward to and traveled every summer to spend time with family and friends at Indian Creek Campground in Geneva-on-the Lake, Ohio.
One particular hobby Bob had was creating scrapbooks and photo albums of his family, special life events and travel. These special memories will be cherished by his family for many years to come.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Wanda Skinner Udy, son-in-law Michael Skinner and his brothers Howard and Gordon Farr. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years Marilyn Farr, his son Robert (BJ) and wife Sondy Farr, his grandchildren Joshua (Jenny) Skinner, Benjamin (Charlotte) Skinner, Jordan Farr (Katie Hudzinski), Leigh (Matthew) Manson, Stephanie Farr (Tony Stratis) , and great grandchildren Benjamin and William Skinner and Maci Manson.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday August 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg, Fl. A memorial service with Military honors will follow at 11 a.m. at the Funeral home.
