A crash involving a semi-truck brought traffic to a grinding halt Friday morning on Interstate 75 in Alachua County.
The crash happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. when the semi, driven by Deane Raymond Mansfield, of Holly Hill, was traveling south on I-75 and drifted off the roadway to right. The semi collided with the outside guardrail and the SW 20th Avenue overpass support column on the west shoulder, causing the chassis to separate from the trailer and hit a 2015 Hyundai Elantra driven by Chase Warren Griffin of Gainesville, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
Mansfield’s semi came to rest facing east and blocked all southbound lanes for about two hours. The 51-year-old was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with non-life threatening injuries. Warren wasn’t injured in the incident.
Alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash, the FHP report says, adding that the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
