To the Editor:
Mr. Greene complains that three new hospitals need to be built instead of more houses.
In my opinion his complaint is as baseless as most of the letters critical of The Villages Regional Hospital by people who lack knowledge of the situation.
First, regarding the need for three new hospitals. The Florida law decrees that a CON (certificate of need) that indicates there is a need for more hospitals before one can be built. Second, I have over 60 years in the healthcare business, 35 years servicing hospitals, 7 years as a hospital pharmacist and now 6 years as a volunteer. The balance was spent as a retail and/or military pharmacist.
I can say that:
1. I don’t think I have ever been in a hospital with a better nursing staff, and
2. I have been a patient in TVRH 4 times and have always received excellent care, and
3. Many of the complaints come about the ER, where many of the patients would be more quickly served by an urgent care. The ER is and should be for emergencies which do take precedence.
