Raymond Podkowa, 89, of The Villages, FL, formally of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully at home September 19, 2018.
Raymond married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Virginia. He attended University of Illinois for 2 years, proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from his 35 year career at U.S. Steel.
Raymond was a loving, generous man. He was exceptionally strong in his beliefs and convictions in life. He deeply loved his family and his country. Ray cherished time with family and friends. He was high-spirited and always wore a smile.
Ray was a resident of The Villages, FL for over 25 years, a long time member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church and a proud and loyal member of The American Legion Post 347.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Virginia Podkowa (Stuhlmann); five sons Raymond (Rhonda), John (Donna), Richard (Maureen), Martin (Terese), William (Jennifer Holly), and one daughter Joy ( Mic); 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida, Friday, October 5th at 2:30 pm.
