Dreams for Seniors looks to help those over 68 experience a life-enriching memory

While the desire to fulfill dreams for children who face adversity are always a tug on the hearts of a caring public, one woman in The Villages who has in the past volunteered in her home state of Illinois to meet the wishes of children, has turned her attention to the population she lives among.

Debbie Davison is the founder of Dreams for Seniors Charity, a non-profit she started in Illinois and has brought to The Villages with a partnership with Classic Home Health Services in Leesburg. This partnership results in referrals to Dreams for Seniors Charity of those who need are in need with the possibility of having their dream met.

The mission of Dreams for Seniors is to give seniors over the age of 68, who are critically or chronically ill, a dream that enriches their lives and brings to them a pleasurable memory they can cherish the rest of their life. Dreams must fall within the organization’s spending guidelines, typically between $100 and $1,000, and 100 percent of all donations go to granting dreams.

Two examples of dreams granted locally are a lift chair that was bought for a woman who was at risk in her home because she had fallen several times and needed somewhere to sit where she could get up without assistance; a second dream was a person of low income with chronic kidney disease who could not afford their personal care supplies.

Dreams for Seniors Charity is not only looking for direct donations but is inviting groups who may want to take them on for a charity of the month, or a special event, to ask for a presentation, as well as to spread the word for those in need. One group in The Village of Pinellas had a purse auction to raise funds. Dreams for Seniors Charity is listed with Amazon Smile, where Amazon will donate .5 percent of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organization selected by customers.

For those who love to golf and make a difference at the same time, Dreams for Seniors Charity is having a golf tournament at Redtail Golf Couse on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Sorrento. There will be contests, prizes and a chance to win a new car.  Registration can take place by going to www.dreamsforseniorscharity.org.

Sponsors are also invited to call 309-202-2688 to offer financial or prize support.  Additionally, volunteers are needed for presentations and office work.
