A woman reportedly wearing stolen shoes found herself and a male companion behind bars after she was chased down at Fresh Market in The Villages.

Allison Costigan, 31, of Belleview, and Derrick Stanley Januszyk, 42, of Summerfield, entered the Bealls store at 3659 Wedgewood Lane at about 10 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Costigan placed a pair of men’s size 9.5 Under Armour tennis shoes on her feet and put her old tennis shoes in her purse. She used a small razor to cut off an anti-theft tag, the report said. Januszyk had selected and tried on the shoes before he handed them to Costigan.

They left the store without paying for the shoes and were approached in the parking lot by a loss prevention officer. Both took off running. Januszyk was tackled and subdued by the loss prevention officer.

Costigan kept running and went into the nearby Fresh Market store. She dropped her purse during the pursuit and it was later found to contain a needle, which tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

She was arrested on charges including petit theft and possession of drug equipment.

Januszyk was arrested on charge of petit theft and resisting a merchant in the recovery of property.

Costigan, who is on felony probation through 2020 in a fraud case in Marion County, was being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center. Januszyk was released after posting $2,000 bond.
