Soon-to-be Villager hoping for return of missing iPad

A soon-to-be Villager has lost an iPad loaded with special memories here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown and is asking for help from anyone who might have found it.

Carol Baum, of Long Island, N.Y., lost the iPad last Thursday afternoon while traveling on Buena Vista Boulevard toward County Road 466. She was driving in a car and had accidentally left the iPad on the trunk when she pulled away from her mother’s home in the Village of Calumet Grove at about 3:30 p.m.

“A guy was beeping his horn and I don’t know if he saw something,” she said Saturday afternoon. “I was also wondering if someone like maybe from maintenance found it.”

Baum said the iPad is an older, larger model and is contained inside a black flip-up case. She said it is password protected. And she will receive an email notification if someone tries to change the password, she added.

While there are many reasons Baum hopes to get the iPad returned to her, the biggest revolves around her son, Charlie, who passed away earlier this year. Baum said she has many photos of him on the device and she really wants to get it back so those aren’t lost to her.

Baum, whose mother, Carolyn Verderame, lives in Calumet Grove, plans to move into her new home in the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens sometime after Christmas. She said her grandchildren won’t hear of her leaving Long Island before that, so she plans to make the move in the early part of 2019.

“Now I just hope I can avoid the snowstorms up there,” she said with a laugh Saturday.

Baum will fly back to Long Island on Thanksgiving Day and is holding out hope that the lost iPad will be returned and make the trip with her.

“I’m really hoping someone found it and will be able to return it,” she said.

Anyone with information about the lost iPad can call Carol at (631) 521-3898.
