48,982 square-foot grocery store coming to Trailwinds Villages

The identity of a second grocery store planned for Trailwinds Village remains a mystery.

At a meeting Tuesday of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board, Special Magistrate W. Grant Watson recommended approval of a site plan for the unnamed 48,982-square-foot store along with site plans for three smaller adjacent buildings. Trailwinds is north of County Road 466A east of the Sandhill golf course.

The four buildings, including two with 8,400 square feet and one with 1,400 square feet, are across Trailwinds Boulevard from Lowe’s. The four sites are called the Market at Trailwinds.

Chris Potts of Farner, Bailey and Associates, who represented the developer at the meeting, said he did not believe a tenant has been found for the store.

If there is a tenant, the developer, the Barclay Group, is keeping it under wraps. Farner, Bailey and Associates of Wildwood is a civil engineering firm handling the project plans.

The grocery store will be roughly the same size as the nearby Aldi grocery store, which opened earlier this year, and slightly smaller than many Publix stores.

Watson also recommended approval of a site plan for Wendy’s at Trailwinds pending the resolution of a sidewalk issue. On the site plans, a sidewalk from Wendy’s does not match up with a sidewalk from what will be a neighboring Taco Bell.

When it is completed, Trailwinds Village is expected to have 296 homes, 462 assisted living beds, 572,750 square feet of retail space and 151,500 square feet of office space. An assisted living center will be at the eastern end and storage buildings are planned for the northwest part of the property.
