Driver with two loaded guns in vehicle arrested after traffic stop on County Road 466

Andrew Poteet

A man with two loaded guns in his vehicle was arrested after a traffic stop on County Road 466.

Andrew James Poteet, 27, of Weirsdale, had been at the wheel of a white 2002 Hyundai Sonata with an expired license plate when he was pulled over at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of East County Road 466 in Oxford, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

As a deputy approached the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected. Poteet and a passenger were asked to step out of the vehicle and Poteet was seen throwing a baggie containing marijuana under the car. Poteet had a North American Arms .22-caliber revolver in his front pocket. The five-shot revolver had a single .22-caliber round in it. A Raven Arms .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun was found under the driver’s seat.

“The driver would not have had to leave his seat, but just reach under his seat and pull the firearm out,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

The gun was loaded with six rounds in the magazine.

A bottle of THC oil was also found in the cupholder between the driver and passenger seats.

Poteet was arrested on two felony counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $7,000 bond.
