A 74-year-old Villager is seeking legal protection from a 26-year-old neighbor who allegedly ripped him off.
A hearing is set for Feb. 26 in Sumter County Court in which the Villager is seeking an injunction for protection against exploitation of a “vulnerable adult.”
Justin Childs, who allegedly stole $4,000 from the Villager, continues to be held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center following his Dec. 6 arrest.
Childs and the man were neighbors on Sellers Court in the Emmalee Villas in the Village of Mallory Square. The man told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies his wife had recently died and Childs had been helping him out. The man later discovered Childs had transferred money out of his bank account. The man described Childs as a “caregiver and neighbor.”
In 2013, Childs had been sentenced to one month and 29 days in the Sumter County Detention Center following his conviction on trespassing charges. He was also on felony probation at the time of his arrest.
