A Lady Lake woman was arrested in the theft of a gift card at a Wal-Mart store where she worked.
The investigation began Jan. 4 when a customer returned to the store to report that she had received an incorrect gift card, according to an arrest report from the Mount Dora Police Department.
The investigative trail led to 28-year-old Mary Edmond, an associate at the store in Mount Dora. Video surveillance showed that Edmond kept the customer’s loaded gift card for herself and gave the customer a blank card. Edmond later used that gift card to purchase $567.86 worth of merchandise at the store. During an internal investigation this past Thursday, Edmond admitted to taking the customer’s card.
She was arrested on charges of grand theft and possession of a stolen debit/credit card.
She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $4,000 bond.
