John Bartram Chapter of DAR receives National Charter during meeting in The Villages

The John Bartram Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution had a very busy meeting at the Eisenhower Recreation Center when members celebrated its fifth anniversary and received its official charter.

Margaret Heagy, Peggy Wilburn, Norma Hoehndorf, Carole Ann Peskin, Founding Regent, Diane Clemmons, Registrar, Sheri Hudson, Former Regent and Dawn Lemongello, Florida State Regent, from left.

Fourteen new members were installed and greeted by Florida State Regent Dawn Lemongello and the more than 80 members and guests present.

Lemongello spoke on the history and importance of the Suffragette Movement and the passage of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution that gives the right to vote to women.

This year marks the 100-year anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s passage. 

Jeanne Farren, Regent of John Bartram, then presented the official Charter of Incorporation of the John Bartram Chapter, which was begun in 2013.

Some of the founding members were present and were awarded rose bouquets.
