A man driving a vehicle with a flat tire was arrested on a drunk driving charge Wednesday night near Brownwood.
Gary Allen Murar, 49, of Wildwood, had been driving a black SUV at 11:12 p.m. on State Road 44 at Signature Drive when an officer saw that the vehicle had a flat tire, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.
Murar claimed he knew the tire was flat, had hit a curb and was looking for a place to pull over. The officer detected “the strong odor of alcohol” while speaking with Murar.
He became belligerent during field sobriety exercises and refused to complete them, the report said. He also refused to provide a breath sample.
An inventory of the SUV turned up four empty Bud Light cans in the backseat, an empty can of Michelob Ultra in the center console and a half empty can of Michelob Ultra behind the center console.
A check revealed Murar has prior drunk driving arrests in Illinois and Missouri.
He was booked on $2,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
