Joseph George Talmadge, 93, passed away Tuesday, January 29th, 2019, in Leesburg, Florida. Joe was born August 7, 1925 to James and Elizabeth (Schneider) Talmadge in Joliet, Illinois.
He attended Joliet Catholic High School. Joe served in the Navy in WWII and enlisted when he was 17 years old. He served in the South Pacific on the USS Austin. He met his loving wife, Ann Helen Jansky, after the war and they were married on September 4, 1948 in Joliet, Illinois. In 1948 Joe began a long career as a boilermaker, welder and pipe fitter in the Chicago area. Joe retired in 1987 and moved to Florida. Joe spent his retirement time with his family and friends. He loved making stained glass projects as a hobby. Ann and Joe were very active in boating, square dancing and traveling in their recreational vehicle to explore the United States and Mexico.
Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, 3 children: Son, Lawrence (Kathleen) Talmadge of New Lenox, Illinois, Daughter, Marilyn (Thomas) Bettenhausen of Lexington, Kentucky, Son, Gary of Leesburg Florida, 7 Grandchildren: Felicia Tyler, Lori Williams, Travis Talmadge, Kristin Crawford, Michelle Michels, Jayme Talmadge and Tina Boseo and 14 Great Grandchildren: Nolan, Ben, Graham, and Genevieve Williams, Cecily, Emmett, and Henry Crawford, Bennett, Leighton, and Charlotte Michels, Ila and Leo Tyler, Jack and Brooklyn Boseo.
A memorial service for the family will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mark Lutheran Church, 28215 U.S. 27, Leesburg, Florida 34748.
