Summerfield man’s windshield shattered by water main cover

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was summoned by a 63-year-old Summerfield man who found his vehicle’s windshield shattered on Sunday.

The man, who lives in the 14300 block of SE 63rd Avenue, reported finding a blue cover for a water main lying on the side of his driveway.

After looking around, the man noticed that the windshield of his Honda Civic was cracked and spider-webbed on the lower passenger-side corner, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the man returned the water main cover across the street where it belonged.

The man also told the deputy that he had been working on his car on Sunday around 4 p.m. and the windshield wasn’t damaged, the report says.
