Making the move

Well, we have had The Blonde in the house’s birthday, and Valentine’s Day right in the midst of our worst move ever – and we have made more than a few moves.  Before I forget I can’t divulge the number of anniversaries of her birthdate that The Blonde has seen.  I am as brave as the next guy, but there are limits.  Let us just say that they have all been enjoyable – especially the ones that I have shared with her.

One of the facts of this move which has surprised me is that I have gained five pounds in a short period of a few days.  You would think that packing boxes for several days, lifting boxes at the destination, stretching for stuff out of the boxes, cutting the boxes up and putting them out for the recycling truck would cause one to lose weight not gain it.  Then there is putting the stuff away often involving location changes. However, what we did was move back to the section of The Villages where we originally settled and lived for 12.5 years.  We moved in amongst good friends from our previous sojourn here.

Even though some of the neighbors are as old as us – ok, one or two – they remembered us.  Being nice people, they immediately stopped by with all sorts of desserts.  We were also invited out for dinner and ate out several times so The Blonde would not have to cook. Desserts are my weakness, and if The Blonde would let me, I would probably make a meal of them.  There is at least one downside. That is, there is an area social which is coming up the next week and it involves a pot luck.  The problem is that this time it is the men who are to prepare the “luck”.  Our youngest son said that he had never heard of a party where the men prepared the food.  I think that he was indicating that he was happy that he did not have to attend.

I am not worried – at least about the other men in our Social.  They are very versatile, and will undoubtedly come up with fabulous food.  I am worried about what I might make.  The men’s group meets for breakfast every Tuesday morning.  I thought about getting a huge meal for myself and then bringing it home in boxes, but unfortunately the Social is the night before.  Possibly, I could buy a dozen muffins and claim that I baked them myself.  I could most likely fool the men, but the wives will be there too and they are naturally suspicious.  I am going to have to wrack my brain.

It wasn’t that many years ago as civilization goes that people seldom moved.  Back then, they had to pack their own wagons and trudge for many days or weeks to get to a new location.  They would be lucky to have someone show them where there was water let alone get any desserts.  As I indicated above, I am really going to have to brainstorm this.  Yeah! A good thought has just percolated into my brain cells.  I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before.

I will prepare my famous fried liverwurst casserole.  It is easy to make and I don’t have to make a lot of it since for some reason most people pass it up, which is too bad as it is really delicious.  Yep, I am all set!

Now, I can go back to unloading boxes!
