Republicans will regret Trump’s dangerous precedent

To the Editor:

I’m afraid our president declaring a national emergency has set a precedent that the Republicans will regret. This president continues to bring up the families who have lost a loved one due to an illegal immigrant. There isn’t nearly as many people killed by an illegal immigrant as there are by a legal gun. I can now see our next Democratic president calling a national emergency about guns and outlawing all guns or putting many more restrictions on them. The same reasons Trump is giving will be the same reasons the Democratic president will give.
I do believe we need better border security and maybe more wall is the right way to secure it, but this is not the right way. This is a political statement and not one in the best interests of our country, by both parties.
