A convicted sex offender recently released from prison has registered an address near a planned recreation center in The Villages.
Cody J. Nelson, 26, was released from prison on Feb. 20, according to the Florida Department of Corrections. He was convicted in 2013 in Marion County on a charge of lewd or lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 to 16 years of age.
The day after he was released from prison, he registered an address at 7280 SE Hwy. 42 in Summerfield. That is not far from the site of a new recreation center being planned at the former home of the First Baptist Church at The Villages, recently purchased by the Amenity Authority Committee. A resident survey about uses for the property is scheduled to wrap up on Thursday.

Nelson will have access to a 1999 gold Ford pickup, as well as a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle and a 2007 Yamaha, according to information on file with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
