Bicyclist injured after struck by pickup near entrance to Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter

A bicyclist was injured after he was struck by a pickup Wednesday morning near the entrance to the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter.

The accident occurred at 11:17 a.m. when the bicyclist was riding southbound on Buena Vista Boulevard and preparing to make a left turn, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A silver pickup had been traveling west on Ternberry Forrest Drive and was preparing to turn onto Buena Vista Boulevard when it struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the pickup was ticketed on a charge of violating the right of way.
