81-year-old driver to be re-tested after crashing into front of popular restaurant

An 81-year-old driver will likely be re-tested for his driver’s license after crashing into the front of a popular restaurant.

Martin Calvin Lowers, of Lake Panasoffkee, climbed behind the wheel of his 2003 four-door Lincoln Continental at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of Chefs of Napoli on U.S. 301 in Wildwood and had attempted to back out of a parking space, according to an accident report from the Wildwood Police Department. However, Lowers mistakenly pulled forward and crashed into the front window of the restaurant. Damage was estimated at $7,000.

A window is boarded up at Chefs of Napoli after a driver plowed into it.

Lowers was not injured and no one inside the restaurant was injured. Lowers’ vehicle had to be towed from the scene. He was not ticketed, but the police officer who wrote the report recommended that Lowers be re-tested for his driver’s license.
