Neighbors packed a meeting Wednesday morning in which a homeowner was seeking retroactive approval for a house she had painted brown in The Villages.
It was the third time Barbara Schusler had taken her case before the Architectural Review Committee regarding her home at 1201 Augustine Drive in the Village of Santo Domingo.
Technically, the base color is Brandywine. The trim is Navajo White.
Schusler described the color as, “A warm earthy brown.”
A petition signed by more than 30 of her neighbors was presented to the ARC. The neighbors who signed the petition were supportive of Schusler’s paint job.
“We are looking to protect the whole neighborhood. We want to help them protect their investment,” said ARC Chairman Irv Markley, a resident of Community Development District 6.
ARC member Tom Swiers noted that the Village of Santo Domingo has a distinct “Spanish influence” and he believed brown was a good match.
It was noted that there are no other brown houses in the neighborhood.
“It is darker than I would like, but I think it’s appropriate for the neighborhood,” said ARC member Chris Faulhaber.
He made a motion for the approval of Schusler’s application, which was granted by the ARC.
Schusler purchased the Designer home in 2004 for $335,000.
