A Villager’s grandson paid a touching tribute to his late father on the Memorial
Day Weekend.

Collin Nixon, 14, whose grandmother is Charlotte Rupakus, of the Village of Duval, played Taps for his father, Pvt. Ricki James Nixon, who is buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Nixon was among thousands of Floridians and others who visited the cemetery on Monday. Several busloads of Villagers, led by veteran advocate Marguerite Desbrow, made the trip as part of the Flags For Fallen Vets effort. And members of the John Bartram Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution also placed flags next to the white marble tombstones at the national cemetery.
