Bartenders find themselves on front lines as happy hour cut at town square

Bartenders found themselves on the front lines this weekend as happy hour was cut from two hours to one hour at Spanish Springs Town Square.

The elimination of the two-hour happy hour began Saturday, which was June 1. Those enjoying the music of Blue Stone Circle on Saturday were also the first to witness the end of the two-hour happy hour and the breaking of a promise made long ago by Villages founder Harold Schwartz.

Spanish Springs Town Square had enjoyed the special status of a happy hour that lasted nightly from 5 to 7 p.m. Lake Sumter Landing Market Square and Brownwood Paddock Square have always had a happy hour that lasts from 5 to 6 p.m.

Those visiting the bar kiosks from 6 to 7 p.m. at Spanish Springs Town Square, who evidently had not heard that the two-hour happy hour was being cut in half, learned the news from bartenders. The bartenders were visibly wincing when they were questioned by Villagers astonished by the news.
