A Summerfield man was arrested earlier this week after being accused of taking a bicycle and a shopping cart full of items from the Summerfield Wal-Mart.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy arrived a short time after the call on Monday and spotted 29-year-old Jerry Wayne Cash on a bicycle pulling a shopping cart on 109th Terrace Road near the Wal-Mart, which is located at 17961 U.S. Hwy. 27/441.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and Cash let go of the shopping cart and “pedaled rigorously in an attempt to flee.” But he was apprehended a short time later when the deputy deployed his taser to stop him, a sheriff’s office report states.
The deputy searched Cash and found two needles in a clear baggie with a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana, a clear baggie with a white rock-like substance and a clear baggie with white powder residue, the report says.
The deputy determined that Cash allegedly stole the bicycle and the shopping cart full of merchandise valued at $1,151.70. The items were returned to Wal-Mart and Cash was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with illegal possession of a shopping cart, larceny/grand theft, resisting an officer without violence, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug equipment.
Cash is being held on $14,000 bond and is due in court July 9 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
Cash, who has been classified as a habitual offender, also was arrested in September 2017 after he was caught behind the wheel of a vehicle in Lake Sumter Landing.
