Residents of a villa community in The Villages are unhappy with the position of the Architectural Review Committee on a homeowners’ paint job.

Stephen Stone, president of the homeowners association in Villa De Laguna West, spoke Friday morning before the Community Development District 1 Board of Supervisors.

He said the ARC went against the wishes of the residents of the villa community when it granted in 2016 a request from a homeowner at 914 San Saba Court for permission to paint the columns at his home.

The president of a homeowners association is objecting to this paint job.

However, Stone said the ARC did not follow its own ruling from 2011 when residents of Villa De Laguna West petitioned that body with regard to acceptable colors within their community.

Stone claimed he contacted Community Standards and was told the color the resident had used on his columns “was close enough.” He said that other villa owners have started painting their columns also, without ARC approval.

CDD 1 supervisors were reluctant to overrule the ARC, an all-volunteer committee that reviews upwards of 100 applications in its weekly sessions.

“We appreciate the hard work of the ARC,” said CCD 1 Chair Kathy Porter.
