Richard Couture

Richard Allen Couture (Cooch) 69 years old of The Villages, Florida passed away peacefully on June 25, 2019 surrounded by his loving wife, children and brother, after losing his battle to COPD.

He was born on September 20th at the Mary Fletcher Hospital, (UVM Medical Center) in Burlington, Vermont.  He was a graduate of Burlington High School class of ’68.  Richard was a trucker driver for most of his life where he worked for Canada Dry, Woodbury Lumber, Georgia Pacific and finished his career at New England Motor Freight where he retired in 2007. While in Vermont he enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golf, coaching his children’s little league teams and running Wiffle ball tournaments.  He had a real zest for life but what he thought most important was the three beautiful children he and Peggy raised together. Richard and Peggy moved to The Villages 10 years ago to enjoy life and their retirement, an area often referred to as Disneyland for the adults.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 51 years Peggy, their daughters and husbands Tess & Bill Pretty, Shawntel & Todd Burke, their son and his wife Richard & Jodie Couture.  He leaves his grandchildren Elisha & husband Jon, Katelynn, Billy, Alyssa, Nikolas, Chelsea & husband Cody, Cassidy, Jordan, Madison and great-grandchildren Brody, Wyatt, Logan and Lilly. He also leaves his sister Barbara Richards her husband Elmer, his brother Bernard Couture and wife Betty, step sister Janet and many beloved sisters & brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.  Richard is predeceased by his parents Robert E. Couture and  Dorothy Couture, sister Ann Beliveau, brother Earnest (Chucky) Couture, step-brother Pete and his wife Judy Couture and step sister Shirley.

The family would like to acknowledge the amazing care he received in the ICU from his day and night nurses at TVRH, Jennifer, Isabelle, Annette and the Respiratory team Barry, Angela, Rick and Thomas.  Hugs to you all for treating your patient and us with respect and love as if he were your own.  You are the angels Richard and family needed in his final fight. Per his request there will be no visiting hours or services. Private family services will be held at a later date in Vermont.
