An Italy-based building products manufacturer that moved into Wildwood a year ago already is expanding its operation.
Mapei Group, which manufactures chemical products such as mortar, grout and adhesives, wants to add a 50,200-square-foot warehouse on its 18.3-acre property in the Shamrock Industrial Park, which is south of County Road 462 East and east of U.S. 301.
Special Magistrate W. Grant Watson recommended approval of a site plan for the project at a meeting Tuesday of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board. The city commission likely will consider the project later this month.
Watson also recommended a 35-foot ceiling height for the building. The company originally requested a 30-foot height, but decided to increase it to the maximum allowed by the city.
With 105 employees in Wildwood, the company occupied a 100,000-square-foot facility a year ago with plans to expand it eventually to 260,000 square feet. The facility was operating as a warehouse with plans to transition to manufacturing in the future.
The company also opened a 210,000-square-feet facility last year in Calhoun, Ga.
Mapei’s U.S. Office is in Deerfield Beach and its global corporate headquarters is in Milan, Italy. The company has 82 subsidiaries and 79 plants in 34 countries. It has 13 plants and warehouses in the U.S.
