Woman jailed after injured child shows up at Villages Regional Hospital

Latasha Niccole Freeman

A woman was jailed after an injured child showed up at The Villages Regional Hospital.

The child showed up Saturday at the hospital having suffered from swelling of the face, a possible concussion and possible broken bones, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The child was evaluated by medical staff.

It took 37-year-old Latasha Niccole Freeman, of Lady Lake, two hours to arrive at the hospital.

Instead of heading for the hospital, Freeman “chose to drive the victim’s attacker out of the county before responding to the hospital,” the arrest report said.

Freeman was arrested on a felony charge of child neglect. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
