New Spruce Creek South resident finds surprise in home – handgun with no serial number

A 67-year-old man who is new to Spruce Creek South got quite a shock when he moved into his new home recently.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to the residence in the 10200 block of SE 179th Place on Thursday and when he arrived, the man said he had just bought the house and found a handgun in a closet. He gave the Brevettata .22-caliber pistol, which was in a brown holster, to the deputy for disposal, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy attempted to make sure the handgun was clear, but it had no visible serial number. He took the weapon and placed it into evidence at the sheriff’s South Marion District Office in The Villages, the report says.
