Snowbird could face fines thanks to neglected property in The Villages

A snowbird could face fines thanks to a neglected property in The Villages.

The home at 467 Oboe Way in the Village of Amelia is owned by Helen Kelleher and was the subject of a public hearing Friday morning before the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors.

A complaint about overgrown grass and weeds was received May 19 by Community Standards. The complaint was verified the following day by Community Standards.

467 Oboe Way

Kelleher, who receives the tax bill for the home in The Villages at a post office box in Amesbury, Mass., was contacted by Community Standards. Kelleher said she did not know of any landscapers in The Villages. Community Standards sent information about landscapers obtained from the Yellow Pages. It does not appear Kelleher took any steps to have the work performed.

There have been three letters and had two phone calls from Community Standards with the property owner.

The utilities at the property – including water and amenities – are past due, according to Community Standards. There does not appear to be a mortgage on the home.

Richard and Helen Kelleher purchased the home in 2013 for $176,000. Richard Kelleher died in 2014.

The property owner was found in violation of deed compliance rules and will face a series of fines if the property is not brought into compliance.
