Summerfield woman who fled from deputies after shots fired in neighborhood behind bars

Renee Marie Strehlow

What started out as a call for shots fired in a Summerfield neighborhood ended with a 38-year-old woman with no driver’s license behind bars after she fled from a Marion County sheriff’s deputy.

A woman called the sheriff’s office for help Tuesday after hearing gunshots in the 14000 block of SE 93rd Terrace. She told a deputy she saw Renee Marie Strehlow standing in a yard and holding something in the air. And she said Strehlow left the area driving a black four-door Cadillac, a sheriff’s office report states.

A short time later, a deputy spotted Strehlow driving northbound in a 2014 black Cadillac sedan on U.S. Hwy. 441 in front of Del Webb Spruce Creek. He activated his emergency lights and siren and Strehlow began to flee, accelerating to a high rate of speed and cutting in and out of traffic, the report says.

Strehlow eventually stopped her vehicle in the 6900 block of SE Abshire Boulevard and was taken into custody. She told deputies “she wanted to run but the passengers asked her to stop,” the report says.

Deputies conducted a computer check that showed Strehlow was issued an identification card but didn’t have a driver’s license. She told deputies she had several needles in the vehicle, which were located next to the driver’s seat. And on the passenger side deputies found two glass pipes containing a residue that field tested positive for the presence of cocaine, the report says.

After Strehlow told deputies she had ingested narcotics, she was transported to AdventHealth Ocala. Once she was cleared by the hospital, she was taken to the Marion County Jail and charged with fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and siren active, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, possession of drug equipment and a warrant for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

Strehlow, who lives at 13182 SE 93rd Terrace Rd. in Summerfield and has been held in the jail nine times since March 2015, was held on no bond. She is due in court on Aug. 14 and Aug. 20 to answer to the charges.

Strehlow was arrested in June 2017 after she ran a stop sign and was caught driving with a suspended license. She also was held without bond at the Lake County Jail following her arrest on Christmas Day 2015. She had been picked up on a Marion County warrant for a probation violation.
