A Fruitland Park sex offender was jailed after he was caught with nearly 30 grams of marijuana.
Forrest Peeples, 36, had been driving a silver Chevrolet in the early morning hours Friday on U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg when he was pulled over because the vehicle did not have a working taglight, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. A check revealed Peeples’ driver’s license had been suspended. He admitted he had missed a payment on his ticket payment plan.
The deputy noted the aroma of marijuana coming from the vehicle and Peeples confessed he earlier had been smoking the drug. A search of the vehicle turned up two vape pens with two cartridges in the glovebox that tested positive for THC oil. A bag containing 28.7 grams of marijuana also was discovered.
Peeples was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, driving while license suspended and possession of THC oil. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $8,000 bond.
Peeples was convicted in 2003 in Lake County on a charge of lewd or lascivious molestation of a female between the ages of 12 and 15 years old. He is required to register as a sex offender.
