The Leesburg Gas Department chipped in to lend a helping hand recently when the City of Williston suffered an emergency.

Leesburg Gas Department employees Corey Goepfert, Jessie Cummins and Rob McConahy spent two days in Williston in late July helping to restore service to residents and businesses.

Three Leesburg employees traveled to the small Levy County city in late July to help repair a gas system issue that caused all 500 of the city’s customers to lose service. Williston’s Gas Department reached out to the Florida Gas Utility to coordinate support and Leesburg answered the call for help.

Leesburg Gas staff members Corey Goepfert, Jessie Cummins and Rob McConahy spent two days in Williston helping to restore service to residents and businesses. The crews, which also included personnel from Lake County, started early in the morning and worked until dark to get the system up and running.

“It is common in the gas industry for utilities to support one another,” said Gas Director Jack Rogers. “We have mutual aid agreements in place for instances like this and our guys were happy to help out.”
