32-year-old Leesburg pedestrian killed in apparent hit-and-run crash

A Leesburg man was killed early Sunday morning – the apparent victim of a hit-and-run crash.

Leesburg Police officers were called to the area of U.S. Hwy. 441 and N 3rd Street shortly after 6 a.m. in reference to a pedestrian, later identified as 32-year-old Paris Fred Antonio Smith, lying in the median. He was unresponsive and officers performed CPR until they were relieved by medics from Lake EMS.

Smith was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. It appears he had been crossing the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 441 when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, a Leesburg Police report states.

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene for about three hours. The incident remains under investigation by Leesburg Police traffic homicide investigators.
