Leesburg man airlifted after early morning crash on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Fruitland Park

A multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466A snarled traffic early Monday morning as one driver was airlifted to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

A Leesburg-area man was airlifted early Monday morning from a multi-vehicle crash at the busy intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466A.

The man, in his early thirties, apparently pulled out in front of another vehicle when he was attempting to turn onto CR 466A from the highway. His 2008 Buick four-door sedan was then struck by at least one other vehicle.

In addition to the Buick, three other vehicles – a four-door KIA passenger car, a Chevrolet SUV and a four-door Hyundai – were involved in the incident that was reported to Fruitland Park Police at 6:17 a.m. It caused a traffic delay until crews were able to treat the injured man and clear the damaged vehicles from the roadway.

The man was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center via a medical helicopter as a precaution shortly after Fruitland Park Police officers and firefighters, along with Lake EMS personnel, arrived on scene. His condition wasn’t known Monday night. No other injuries were reported.
