86-year-old Villager calls for help after realizing she was victim of fraud

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to an 86-year-old Villager’s home on Tuesday after she realized she’d been the victim of fraud.

When the deputy arrived at the woman’s home, located in the Ashleigh Villas in the Village of Calumet Grove, she said she’d received a letter from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles requesting that she contact them regarding a duplicate driver’s license.

The woman said she also was contacted by someone from a Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership in reference to a credit application. She said she had never requested either of those things, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy advised the woman to file a report for documentation purposes. She said she already had placed a fraud alert on her credit card through various credit bureaus.
