Villagers are being encouraged to mark their calendars for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office’s annual pancake breakfast and collection of unused medicine.
The annual breakfast to support the Kids, Cops & Christmas program will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at RJ Gators at Lake Sumter Landing.
The breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes served with two sausages, one glass of orange juice and coffee for a $6 donation. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the sheriff’s annex at County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard.
That same day, the sheriff’s office will be hosting Operation Medicine Cabinet, which gives Sumter County residents a chance to dispose of unused or expired prescriptions. It will be held during the pancake breakfast with deputies stationed on the sidewalk outside the restaurant.
Thrown into the garbage, pharmaceuticals can end up leeching into the environment. Flushed down a toilet, the medicines can contaminate groundwater supply. Disposing of unused or expired medicine also will keep children and grandchildren from getting into the prescriptions. Proper disposal prevents the medicine from being stolen or abused.
