Two dead in possible murder-suicide in Fruitland Park neighborhood

Fruitland Park Police officers are investigating a possible murder-suicide that took place late Sunday night.

Fruitland Park Police officers and Lake County sheriff’s deputies were investigating a possible murder-suicide at a house on Phoenix Avenue early Monday morning.

Officers were called to a home on Phoenix Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. for a possible shooting. When they arrived at the residence, located near Palm Street not far from the Citizens First Bank branch on U.S. Hwy. 27/441, they found two unresponsive adults inside the home. They were pronounced dead by EMS personnel a short time later.

Fruitland Park Police officers were at the scene Monday morning gathering evidence. They don’t believe any other suspects are involved and they posted a notice on their Facebook Page shortly before 7:30 a.m. to calm neighbors and those in the area who saw a large law enforcement presence at the scene.

The victims were believed to be living together at the home and possibly were well-known in the community. Officers said Monday morning that the residence hasn’t had a history of violence. Police said the names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
