Fast-moving flames destroyed a SECO Energy power truck late Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision in Fruitland Park.
The crash took place around 5 p.m. in the northbound lanes at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27 /441 and Eagles Nest Road. Officials were forced to close all lanes of the roadway while firefighters battled the fire in the burning truck.
The other vehicles involved in the crash, a black passenger car and an SUV, came to rest blocking Eagle’s Nest Road, with the front of the car jammed up against the side of the SUV. The back-passenger side of the car also was heavily damaged.
Officers from the Fruitland Park Police Department responded to the crash alongside crews from Fruitland Park Fire Rescue. A woman involved in the incident was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons. And traffic was rerouted on other roadways in the area, which created backups as far away as the intersection of County Road 466A and Micro Racetrack Road just outside walls of The Villages.
